Nurse In The Making
Categories: (Family, General, My Girls) by Lisa Ruggles on 17-10-2008
Last week my parent came to stay with my girls while Brad and I went away to Catalyst. The girls loved having their Grandma and Grandpa Gillim’s undivided attention.
I have an extremely weak stomach, I run the opposite direction at the site of blood. If the girls are hurt and Brad is around, he is the one to tend the wound. I know, it isn’t good motherly instincts.
Last year Chloe stepped on glass and I thought I was going to pass out. I wrapped up her bleeding foot and called in Uncle Jay for emergency assistance and to decide if we needed stitches. I’m a wimp and I know it.
So it very much surprises me that both my girls do well with blood, cuts, needles and such. Last year my close friend had a c-section and Chloe wanted to look! I looked because I had to, that is what a friend does. But not Chloe she was all into it.
Grandpa is a diabetic and offered to give Emily a lesson in administering his shot. She quickly jumped at the chance.

Do you have a weak or strong stomach?

Hey girl! It was so great to connect with you at Catalyst! Officially adding you to my roll and reader - have to keep up!

That’s awesome! Maybe they can come with me the next time I observe a veterinary surgery…=) They probably wouldn’t like dissections, though…no blood, and very smelly.
I have a pretty strong stomach, unless it’s barf…can’t handle that.

I think I have a strong stomach. The only thing I gag at is the sound of someone vomitting…I can clean it up and help them wash it out of their mouth, but to watch their body force it up and hear that sound of the upward push of unwanted items in the stomach…I can’t handle that.
I’m totally into that sort of stuff. When I had my gall bladder removed, the dr. took a picture for me so I could so. i’m not a nurse, but I sure have the heart of one!! LOL if I lived close by - I’d offer up any help in those situations.
i cant do family injuries. nope. not at all.
when the school calls and brent is with me, i make him answer the phone. i cant handle them saying something happened to my kids. when they come in hurt, i yell for brent. then run.

I’d say for the most part I have a strong stomach. I dissect cow eyeballs for work and show human hearts to students! I did almost pass out when I shadowed the nurses at the burn and wound unit a summer ago. I did good for a while, then it got to me. I won’t give details…..
