Little Chef, Big Mess
Categories: (General, My Girls) by Lisa Ruggles on 08-09-2008
Emily is my Little Chef, she loves to work in the kitchen with me.

And while I enjoy the bonding we get from cooking together. It can be very messy.
Last week we made Minestrone Soup and here is what it looked like when we finished.

Sometimes I find myself thinking, is this really worth the mess? But then my heart responds with a loud YES!
It is worth having to completely scrub down the stove, step on food, mop the floor, trip over all the extra chairs and steps stools and have it take twice as long to complete dinner.
I’m able to spend precious time with Emily, teaching her something she loves! I know I will look back one day and wonder where the time went.
I can confidently say, I will not regret the messes made.
I’m thankful I’m able to spend precious time with my girls!

The counter top doesn’t look so different from when I cook, lol
Dale has a great quote to discribe my cooking…”She’s a great cook, an amazing cook, a phenomenal cook, but…she’s a KLUTZ in the kitchen!” It’s true, I probaly messier in the kitchen than you and your 7 year old! Dale will be in the living room, and constantly hearing “oops!” “ouch” “o no!” from the kitchen and crashes and bangs…it’s a daily thing for me apparently.
Keep the cooking fun, I say!
i totally get bad mommy of the year/life award. when my kids were little i NEVER let them help me in the kitchen. that was back in the day where i was a .NEAT. FREAK. eerrr - ive come a long way/ now…they’re 14 and almost 12 and they’re in the kitchen all the time. and i love it!!! but i really missed out im afraid. so glad you do this with your girls!
and SO glad to see a post from you in my reader! yay!

I used to love to watch my grandmother cook and learn how she made everything so yummy. It amazes me now how many people just don’t cook now. It is such a joy to cook a meal and watch others enjoy it. What is a bigger joy is watching my children also make hugh messes while they help me. It makes great memories they will keep forever
